John D. “Dave” Schneider

John D. “Dave” Schneider ’67, 75, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. He was the husband of Polly Schneider.

John D. Schneider, “Dave,” 75, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 in Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. He was the loving husband of Polly A. (Smith) Schneider. They were married on Dec. 9, 1979 and celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Born in West Reading, and raised in Hamburg, he was the son of the late John N. Schneider and Esther (Snyder) Berger. John was a proud 1967 graduate of Milton Hershey School and sang in the Glee Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1971, serving in Korea at the DMZ. He fought a courageous battle of Parkinson’s for many years. John never gave up despite all the setbacks in his life. John was a custodial worker at McCann School of Business, Pottsville. He was a member of Pottsville Seventh-day Adventist Church. John enjoyed a good meal, camping, fishing, watching football and the Andy Griffith Show, and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed listening to music and singing. John was always very outgoing and sociable. He was very happy and proud to be married to Polly.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Carolyn May (Schneider), wife of Ted Catranis, Schuylkill Haven; Elizabeth Ann Schneider, wife of Artan Misini, Hyattsville, Md.; and Nathaniel John Schneider, husband of Ashley (Lindenberger), Williamsport; and four grandchildren, Ethan, Jeremiah, Ruth and Grace. John is also survived by two sisters, Nancy (Berstler) Heckman and Mary Ellen (Berstler) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, George Heckman and Carson Smith; aunts and uncles.

Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from Hamburg Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 22 Willow Road, Hamburg. Burial will follow in Zion’s Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the church on Monday, 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pottsville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 284 Industrial Park Road, Pottsville, PA 17901.
